Chapter #2 Minutes


The Sidney Sherman Chapter #2, Sons of the Republic of Texas membership


met at Kelley's Family Restaurant in Texas City between 6 and 8 P.M on July 19 .


All officers four officers attended this meeting.


We had 31 attend this meeting. Members and prospects attending were: Albert Seguin (Carvajal Gonzales), Billy Mayo, Carl hill, Clark Wright, Eron Tynz, Gus Mannis, J.B. Kline, James Cantrell, Larry Armstrong, Matt Kane, Mikel Manis, Michael McCown, Mike Mitchell, Mike Mize, Mike Turner, Rick Hodges, Ron Schoolcraft, Stephen McCreery Jr, Steve Mannis, Steve Mannis Jr, Steve Mannis III, Tom Green, William McLaren,

Ron Schoolcraft opened the meeting with a prayer, and led us in the pledges to the American and Texas flags. Steve briefly reviewed upcoming activities including the September 17 ceremony at the Battleground and Elissa for Texas Navy Day and October 14 we expect to have a good showing for the Jane Long festival on Boliver. Later in October we will participate in the ceremony in Lakeview Cemetery at the Burnet Monument. These will all be annual events.


Kathleen Maca Presented a program on the ongoing activities proceeding in the Galveston Cemetery. A number of monuments have all but disappeared, and she described the effort to bring them to the surface. Most were left at ground level after to 1900 storm. She then discussed some of the most notable graves and monuments.


The meeting ended after 8 PM.


Chapter Officers met on September 14 at Denny's in League City. The meeting for Tuesday is set and Ron Schoolcraft will be taking care of the finances for the meeting, please settle with him after the meeting tonight. Ron will also be producing our scrapbook to be presented at the annual meeting in Kerrville next year, please assist him with photos and information. We discussed up-coming activities and will add a meeting here at Kelly's April 18, the Tuesday before the annual San Jacinto Day. We also discussed the possibility of a Christmas party mid-December. Your officers are also seeking a volunteer to serve as chaplain. Our Treasurer Mike McCowen reported that the Texas First account had $2523.74 at the end of business, August 31.
